This depends on your current tone and general health. As we age, we cannot build muscle tissue as quickly as a when we were younger. Taking a day between workouts, especially in the beginning, may be best for your body. After a conditioning period of a few weeks, you would ideally move to a daily regimin. If you find that your symptoms worsen, then you will know conclusively that your muscles need more time to rebuild. You don't want to keep your muscles in a constant state of breakdown, which is what exercise does, and not have the time your body needs to rebuild. Taking a day between workouts would never hurt or set you back. You will just see slow and steady progress that way.
